10 projects onboarding and supporting Web3 builders in Latin America

South and Central America on a map

The growth of Web3 is truly a global revolution, and Latin America is well poised to be a central player in this important movement. Not only is Latin America experiencing increasing adoption of cryptocurrency by the public, but there is also an extraordinary talent base eager to build in the Web3 ecosystem.

When looking at Chainalysis’ 2022 Global Crypto Adoption Index, Latin America is well represented, with four countries in Latin America being ranked in the top twenty – Brazil (7), Argentina (13), Colombia (15), and Ecuador (18). In Brazil and Argentina, for example, 28% and 26% of individuals, respectively, have owned or used cryptocurrency. To put this in perspective, in the United States, that number sits at 16%. In the most recent Gitcoin Grants Round, GG18, there was even a Featured Rounded focused on projects in Latin America.

Despite these exciting trends around adoption, Latin America still lags behind other markets in terms of Web3 investment. Although Latin America has experienced rapid growth in VC investment in Web3 projects over the past 5 years, it still received 10 times fewer deals than the United States did in 2021.

Given the enthusiasm around Web3 in Latin America, and the increasing adoption by the general public, builders in Latin America seem poised to lead the way in Web3 revolution. As such it’s no surprise that numerous projects have emerged in recent years dedicated to the growth of Web3 in Latin America.
