Embracing Diversity and Inspiring Change – Highlighting the newly launched Meta Queens

The world of NFTs often conjures images of speculative investments and a culture dominated by quick dopamine rushes and the "fear of missing out" (FOMO). However, this narrow view overlooks a powerful and transformative aspect of the NFT space: its potential to raise awareness and build communities around important social causes. A great example of this is Meta Queens, a newly launched NFT project with a mission of “rewriting the narrative and shaping the future of queer representation online.”

Meta Queens is a vibrant community dedicated to empowering and uplifting the voices of queer and trans creators and artists in the digital space (Web3). It uses the Art of Drag to bring its vision of resilience, beauty & art to life.  Through creative expression, education, and advocacy, Meta Queens strives to create a digital haven where everyone feels seen, heard, celebrated, and protected while giving back to grassroot LGBTQIA+ non-profits.

As the remarkable Angelica Ross emphasizes: "Participating is key, especially if we want to see systems, communities, and technologies reflect us."

As part of its philanthropic mission, Meta Queens is also raising awareness and funds to support high impact LGBTQIA+ Non-Profits, with 50% of proceeds supporting the incredible work of Trans Tech Social and Outright International

Trans Tech Social is “a co-learning and co-working community created to empower, educate, and employ the LGBTQ+ community through accessible education programs, inclusive events, and equitable employment opportunities that teach practical career-ready skills.” They currently offer a number of programs including G.R.O.W. (Gaining Real Opportunities At Will), which helps students develop career readiness skills, and the TransTech Summit which is taking place in March 2024!

Outright International “works with partners around the globe to strengthen the capacity of the LGBTIQ human rights movement, document and amplify human rights violations, and advocate for inclusion and equality.” Since their launch in 1990, Outright has grown into an international movement, delivering life-saving programs in hundreds of countries around the world. The work of Outright was recently highlighted on the Crypto Altruism podcast episode HERE.

In collaboration with HUG, a social marketplace connecting digital artists with art lovers, Meta Queens has selected five talented international artists whose work will be featured in the generative art collection. These artists, hailing from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, have designed backgrounds that will be featured, and each artist has been awarded $500 for their invaluable contributions.

The collection is now live on Prohibition Art, “an open platform for on chain generative art NFTs” that is built on the Art Blocks Engine and deployed on Arbitrum, an Ethereum Layer 2 Network. NFTs are available for a mint price of .01 ETH.

According to Jordan Lyall, Founder of Prohibition Art:

“This project with Meta Queens elevates inclusivity beyond tech, into community and representation. While previous projects on Prohibition lowered tech barriers, this partnership amplifies diverse identities within the digital community. It's more than a project; it's a profound message of acceptance and a celebration of diversity that transcends digital artistry."

The work of Meta Queens is vitally important, especially as incidents of anti-LGBTQIA+ hate rise on and offline, creating an urgent need to build more inclusive and safe online spaces. It is truly more than just a project, and is set to play an important role in building a more welcoming Web3 community.
