Game to Grow’s Mission
Game to Grow is a 501(c)(3) organization that uses games to provide therapeutic, educational, and community engagement opportunities to participants. Their mission is three-fold:
Provide gaming groups for therapeutic, educational, and community growth.
Train others to use game-based interventions to benefit their own communities.
Promote awareness of the life-enriching potential of games across the world.
Each week, their therapeutic gaming group helps over 100 participants develop their confidence and social skills through the use of all kinds of different games including but not limited to Dungeons and Dragons, Minecraft, and Magic: The Gathering.
Additionally, Game to Grow also provides training to mental health professionals, educators, and community advocates, to help them make use of this innovative therapeutic approach within their own communities.
Game to Grow offers its innovative gaming group therapy to both youth and adults, and also offers support for parents and individual counselling.
Impacts
Since its foundation in 2017, Game to Grow has had a tremendous impact on the community, and served youth and adults with a variety of unique needs and abilities. Participants often struggle with challenges associated with Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), social anxiety, and depression, and come from all walks of life.
In addition to their therapeutic interventions, Game to Grow has trained over 500 therapists and professionals around the world, and has presented to thousands of individuals at conferences, spreading the positive message of how games can be a powerful therapeutic and community-building tool.
One parent of a participant in the youth gaming group made the following comment:
“You’ve helped him in a big way, giving him a lot of confidence while opening up a whole new world filled with magic and fantastic beasts… teaching him about teamwork & collaboration and creative problem solving.”
